Brisbane Ballet’s Giselle breathes new life into the great Romantic masterpiece, transporting its timeless story of love, betrayal and transcendent forgiveness into the fog-shrouded depths of the Schwarzwald.
Set in the misty Black Forest of 1800s Germany, this haunting reimagining unfolds through exquisite classical technique, spectral beauty and the otherworldly presence of the Wilis. Virtuosic pointe work, flowing port de bras, eerie adagios and sweeping waltzes combine to create an atmosphere of intimate suspense and emotional force.
Striking cubist-inspired set designs by OMA Australia and elegant neoclassical costumes frame the original choreography with a fresh visual language — one that heightens the work’s Rhineland intensity while honouring its Romantic soul.
This is Giselle as it has always deserved to be felt: timeless, devastating and thrillingly alive.
